On August 1, 2020 at the National Sports Academy “Vasil Levski” was held athletics tournament “New Stars”. The 42nd edition of the international tournament included in its program a 100-meter inclusive start, which was attended by 12 athletes with intellectual disabilities. The inclusion of integrated starts in sporting events with proven traditions is extremely important support for people with disabilities and their full integration. The example of the organizers of the New Stars tournament has become a sustainable successful practice in the last few years. The participants were awarded by Prof. Marin Gadev – Head of the Department of Athletics at NSA “Vasil Levski”, and after the award they had the opportunity to share a photo with one of their sports idols – the European, World and Olympic champion Tereza Marinova.
Competitors were divided into two series, competing under the slogan #SPORTolerance – an initiative of the “Bulgarian sports development association”, supported by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union, which aims to contribute to the further development of human capacity in sport through implementation of a set of mobility for sports coaches, which will include both educational modules and modules for exchange of good practices in the field of using sports to prevent radicalization and building tolerance and solidarity. Project will use and further develop in the field of tolerance and solidarity the non-formal educational methodology Education Through Sport /ETS/ that is an illustration of using sport as learning tool and thereby taking steps to stretch sport beyond the activity itself.
